Welcome bud !

You have two great trucks there , both tuff in each way .

The 80e is the way to go behind an LS engine .LQ4s are excellent engines to mod , they love boost , just as much as your Dmax does

Do you run stock charger class ? What all is done to your Dmax and whose tuning do you run ?

If I weas you i'd do an isky triple 12 cam for a little NA power, and start looking into a turbo kit from KB racing or Trick performance. Then you're only a converter away from some blistering performance...

My duramax has ... fully built suncoast trans with a 1057 converter, 30% over stock extrude hone injectors, profab exhaust manifolds, stock charger with a batmo wheel and a ppe boost valve, a local shop called maxdout diesel (check him out on facebook) does my tuning and built my trans... the new motor for next year is in the works as we speak full build carrillo rods, lb7 .20over pistons socal diesel cam ... im going with a s467 on the duramax next year with a 100% exergy injectors

Here was my last run with the duramax
Rockinghanm Fair 5th Place 330' - YouTube

vortec350ss - thats what my buddy was saying head studs and a turbo it will love it !

but i cant spend that kinda money now because of the duramax ... id like to do a headers, exhaust, cam, and maybe intake and throttle body for now till i get some $$$ saved back up

I'd go with a mild cam and a turbo... Maybe start with the isky triple 12 NA, then a trick or KB racing front mount turbo kit.

Sorry about that double post... yea I hear that man. Problem is the exhaust mods will be a waste if you do decide to go turbo. I'd plan this out and do it once. For a daily driven truck as heavy as yours is, boost is really the best way to make power. You can make great power NA, but it won't be a joy to drive EVERY DAY.

I went with a roots blower... that would also be a blast. It'd be a totally different power delivery than the dmax which could make it fun for that reason alone. If you went the blower route then it would love the exhaust mods and other bolt ons. You should still map it out though... cam choice will differ drastically depending on the route you take.
