Default New guy from NC

Was introduced to this site by a video on a Tru-Cool trans cooler install in a Tahoe. The bracketing looked ideal and here I am. Looking to improve trans cooling for towing a 7x16 enclosed cargo I have. Also for towing a boat up into the Adirondack Mountains to Lk. George in August. Last year I had borrowed a ScanGaugell to monitor trans temp and was borderline on some of the uphill pulls with the stock trans cooler. I would rather be in the comfortable zone temp-wise since breaking down with a blown trans in the summer in the mountains, on a two lane road with basically no shoulder with a heart condition would really suck. The one thing I had concern about and no one has addressed this from what I have seen is the amount of radiator surface area being blocked for airflow by the cooler. I am looking at installing electric fans which I think will help the airflow after the cooler is put in. Does that make sense? I have a black 03' Z71 Tahoe, some slight mods to engine and exhaust, heavy duty rebuilt trans and transfer, 3.73 LS, 265/75/16 DuraTracs on the good looking 00' Z71 OEM aluminum rims,

Welcome aboard!

The tru-cool should work great for you! For my personal example, my trans hit 210*+ in traffic with no load at all without the tru-cool. After I installed I took my boat and truck fully loaded with gear (~4000lbs total) through the Adirondacks to Lake Champlain with the outside air temp reaching 100*. Peak trans temp was 173* on that trip. It was also behind a 4" thick intercooler, so I would have no worries about blocked airflow either. I actually just ordered the bracket from atomic fab today to get it mounted a little nicer with my new setup

Thanks for the reply. This is the exact info I was looking for and for it to be terrain/task specific is even greater. I see you are from NJ, I was originally until the Army. My family still resides in the West Milford area near and almost on Greenwood Lake. Small world.
