Default Howdy from Texas

Hello everyone.

Newbie here from Texas. I'm getting ready to start the next phase of my trucks build. Phase I had me taking my '68 GMC and my '72 C10 apart and making one good truck from both... and selling off the rest to help others builds. It now sits on a '72 chassis with disc brakes and trailing arm rear suspension w/coil springs. Under the hood is a 383 stroker with a turbo 350, backed with a truck 12 bolt loaded with 3.73's and an Eaton posi.

Here's a pic:

under the hood (has e-fans now)

I say next phase, as I recently purchased a genIV '07up ('09) LY6 6.0L. Its the iron block 6.0L that replaced the LQ4/LQ9 and has VVT and the L92/LS3 style rectangular port heads. I bought it because it was new, had the iron block, and had the heads I wanted. I'm getting ready to build it up "oldskool"...using a Victor Jr. and 6LS-2, along with a roughly 800cfm carb. I will also be replacing the VVT cam and the valve springs, as well as the VVT timing gear and cover, etc. with LS2 or LS3 hardware. I'll most likely back it up with either a built up 200-4r or a 4L80. As much as I'd like to run the 6L80e...it looks like it would cost too much to build it up as EFI getting the harnesses, ECM, DBW pedal, sensors, etc. plus a tune to make it all work. genIII is one thing but a VVT genIV isn't cheap to get running. And to be honest...I like the old school look of a carb.

If anyone has any comments for keeping the EFI or like the carb'd idea feel free to voice your opinions one way or the other. I plan on keeping my intake, cam, etc. for "just in case" I change my mind years from now and decide to go back with EFI and VVT.

Oh the wife's ride...at least until we pick up a Camaro SS convertible next year...and after on nasty wintery or rainy days.

I had a friend in High School that had the exact same truck except he put a 94 model Stepside bed on it and it gave it a real nice look. Beautiful truck and I am sure it will roll with a carbed 6.0L

Thanks all. I've had the truck about 2 years to get it where its at. I'm excited about this next phase with a more modern drivetrain and supension/brakes. I ordered my tranny today, 200-4r with a 2500rpm stall built for 500+hp. Now I just need to order a few more things for the motor...and get started on getting that frame ready. Just not looking forward to the rivets and having to cut/drill a bunch of them off to remove some leaf spring hangers and a crossmember.

Default welcome

Welcome from Texas. Why would you want to jeopardize fuel economy for looks going to a carb setup there is plenty of aftermarket parts to make that motor look good just my opinion. I just installed a LQ9 in my 65 C10 and runs great your gonna be extremely happy with that motor.Good luck with the build.
