Default HELLO - advice for 4.8L build

Hello guys !

My name is Cole and im doing a frame up resto on a 66 Chevy shortbox, currently at the exciting stages of buying and building parts for the 4.8L that I pulled out of a 2003 GMC.

Looking for advice on cams, stall and gearing. Word on the street is the 4.8L is a dog out of the hole so I want to ensure my mods help with that.

Im thinking 212/218 .522 .529 114LSA cam, 3200 stall and 3.73 in the rear... thoughts ??? Cam too mild ? stall to high or to low ?

Thanks guys for your expertise

Cole

the truck weights about 3500 lbs and overall goal would be 450-500 down the road but a nice 400 hp naturally aspired in the spring. Just want to ensure I have everything setup for when I can drop the cash on a badass supercharger

thanks

Those are some VERY lofty goals for a N/A 4.8 liter....

I run a 3.90 gear in my 4.8 and it's pretty good out of the hole with a stock converter... Your truck is lighter than mine so u would prolly feel it a lot better...
