tranny cooler
#1
last weekend in the first 30 minutes of a 9 hour drive to texas my transmission coolant lines that are inside of the radiator blew up. it really sucked. i spent 2 hours in an oriellys parking lot installing an external cooler. i was alittle rushed so i caint remember a dang thing about the one i bought. i plan on staying with an external cooler setup because this is the 2nd time this has happened to me. what i am wondering is what coolers yall are running. also i think i should probably get a temp gauge for the tranny. is there a cooler that has provisions for that? im not running a stall converter on it yet but i do plan on it. the truck is a 4.3v6 with the 4l60e and 3.73 gears.

I have the B&M hytec cooler with but in fan and thermostat it's the larger of the two it the one that's 9.5x13" I run that with the factory cooler and even on the hottest days on stop and go it's never gets above 175 and the fan never kicks on but I like the cooler having it's own fan just in case anything happens it has it own way to cool. And running a 2800 stall and long tubes so it gets hot but the cooler does the trick. They say the cooler the tranny the longer the life under normal situations

I have the temp gauge tee'd inline to the cooler . And we also have a fan on it also. To the left of the cooler you can see the setup with the transmission temp sensor. Running the nexus setup

A popular cooler is a TRU COOL 40K. They work great and are affordable. It sounds like you need to have some professional hoses made. Steel braided with hydraulic crimped ends would be best. Pretty much failure proof.

I'm running this with just the rubber lines for now, it's working fantastically... 99+ degree days, I have yet to see trans temps over 158* ... I am concerned with what I'm going to do in the winter, I'm afraid it cools too good for where I'm at in the country.

Don't worry about the 40K in the winter, I'm sure your winters aren't as harsh as mine. Several of us up here in Alaska running them without any issues.
