Ball-less Blazer

I purchased a 01 Zr2 Blazer for my wife last summer before i got deployed. She loved it at first. Had some small issues that had to be fixed and were delt with. She loved it in the winter in the snow. Now it's almost summer again and she dispises the thing because of all the blind spots from the pillars between the windows and the rear tire carrier. She also hates that it gets like 15 mpg and has such a small tank shes constantly putting gas in it and that it has NO ***** to merge or pass anyone on the highway.
I'm somewhat new to blazers. It has new plugs, wires, K&N drop in AF, Fuel filter, and fuel pump. What are some other cost efficient ways I can squeeze so more power out of it and improve gas mileagle. Exhaust? A tune?

My wife had a new 02 ZR2 blazer. Good looking vehicle, but nickle and dimed the hell out of me.
I took off the rear tire carrier to see better and save weight.
These vehicles only get 15mpg for some reason thats just how it is.
The only thing you can do is keep it tuned up, use good injector cleaner and replace the fuel filter.
A tune will help wake it up as well as free flowing exhaust.
They arent bad vehicles but they are what they are if ya know what i mean.
We bought a Tahoe Z71 and never looked back, better economy, room and power.

Alright, the exhaust note when I drove it shortly seemed fine. My buddy had a 4 door that had a K&N CAI and it moved for a 4.3. I don't remember it being as slow as this, I mean only thing I can compare it to is my truck and a 6.0 is at a total diff. level.
She wants to sell it but I paid 3 for it, it's worth 5. So I'll see when I get home if she'll let me tinker with it.

gear would help out alitle bit
what size tires are on it right now? i would go with at least a 4.10. although thats not very cost efficient at all. bein that its a 4x4. is it a manual or auto? my blazer performs pretty good i think. but ive got about 6 grand in it

It's all stock, and it's auto. I only paid 3 grand for it at 108,000 miles and it's a ZR2 2 door. No performance stuff in it but with the 4.3 being so little compared to the weight it's pushing, all those performance products add up and if I can't determine how long I'll keep the truck for I'm not sure it will be worth the time and money.

Typical gear ratios in ZR2's are 3.73 with 31" tires.

hey its phil! i didnt know you were over here on pt. cool. with 31s i think 4.56 gears are in order. that ratio would get you the same ratio as i have with 3.73s and roulghy 25in tires. 4.3s are great motors i think but they definately aint cheap.
by the way phil i cant get enough of that blazer. wow
