Default 2.2 missfire question

i know this is far from performance but i thought i'd give it a try.

i just aquired a 98 gmc sonoma with a 2.2 5spd

the guy said it started acting up and runing rough after he went though a deep water/mud hole.

well it miss fires bad, you would almost think it had a monster cam. it will only rev up to 2500 maybe 4000 if your lucky but mostly stays around 2500

new ngk plugs, new wires, good compression on all 4,

i got to thinkin that the coil packs are down low and maybe got drowned out but they checked ok with an ohm meter. the only other thing i could think it could be is the ignition control module that the coils go on.

any other ideas here?

i'm pretty sure but not 100 percent that its not a fuel problem seein that it started this after he went to the water hole.

anything???

okay so i put on new coil packs and an ignition module and still not better.

it was throwing a map sensor code. could the map sensor cause it to misfire bad?

with it running i pulled off the wires to each cyl to try to find which one is missing and the only one that didn't change was no. 4 cyl. i know its getting fire so its just about got to be a fuel problem like a stopped up injector on no. 4?

also it is putting out fuel smoke every so often.
