So, where are all of the phone #'s for your customers, friends and family you built trannys for? I guess you can't find anyone to back up your bs.

Wow. You really make it so hard for me to not send you people's personal numbers. Cannot wait to post all this on tech. Anyway. I will have you a few numbers here shortly

It really doesn't matter how many trannys you claim to have built. The fact still remains, the one you built/sold me was junk. Why would Dick's Transmission lie? They have been rebuilding trannys for 35+ years. Again, Why won't you call them to verify?

Man this is such a shame to see
Not really a good sign when you have an outstanding transaction like this and you haven't logged in in 17 days. Also it's been a week since he said he'd get you phone numbers of customers and has yet to provide them...
Have you contacted PayPal?

Man this sucks for you.
I had the same issue recently with a set of wheels. The dude sold me a set of 18s for another car and I didn't get a chance to put tires on for another few weeks. Went to the tire shop and EVERY wheel had a hop in it. They looked immaculate but were blown out to hell. He claimed that I went out and bent them and wanted my money back.
It sucks that it came to this but it's incredibly difficult to resolve a problem like this without getting the law involved. The limit of money for small claims in Florida is 5k so you're covered there. Send him a letter saying unless the problem is resolved you'll file in small claims. If you have solid evidence from the trans shop that the trans was DOA and communication from him saying it was in good condition when he shipped it you should have no problem.
It's also a very important detail that you had the trans shipped directly to the shop. It completely leaves you out of the equation which essentially makes the case a done deal.
