Default Lightning blower removal

Hey guys,

A friend wants me to remove the blower from her Lightning so she can send it off to be ported. I'm a GM guy and haven't ever even looked under the hood of one of these trucks. I found a writeup on the NLOC site that details the intercooler removal (looks like a copy of the factory procedure) and it doesn't seem that bad. I'm guessing that I can just stop one step before the intercooler and have the blower in hand. Anybody have first hand experience with this? If I'm just pulling the blower, will I have to drain the coolant like if I was removing the intercooler too? I'm not a rookie mechanic, just wondering if anyone who's done this job had any tips or pitfalls to avoid. Thanks!

If your are pretty good with tools it will be a snap, no need to pull off the plenium (upper intake) with blower removal, there are a couple of bolts the are basically touching the firewall and if you dont have the right socket you will just strip it.

I would say I'm average with tools and takes about 30 min. undo the throtle body, belt, fuel lines, vac lines and hoses, then 8 (I believe) bolts holding on the blower

I'll walk down to my truck and make better notes in a little bit

Here is an aerial view of the passengers side I hilighted the fuel lines that you need to remove.

There are two bolts on both the drivers and passengers side holding them on

Here is the drivers side, you will need to remove the bolts holding the throttlebody to the plenium (intake) cruise control, and throttle cables, as well as the bracket

This is showing the passenger side again, you will need to undo the vac lines and hoses, the two bolts holding the fuel lines, the 4 on this side holding the blower to the intercooler

Just take your time and look over everything, like I said I'm average with tools and it was pretty easy

Dang! Now that's service!

Sounds good. I'll have to remove the plenum anyway so she can box up just the blower and ship it. I know the GM trucks have coolant running through the throttle body, if these do, can I just leave the throttle body hanging so I don't have to drain the coolant?

Thanks for the help BC!

No coolant in the throttle body, I'm telling you from experience you will save alot of time pulling the blower with the plenium on it, take it off once you pull the blower

OK, from hood opening to done, it took an hour. You were right about the plenum, that worked out well since she is sending it to be ported as well as the throttle body and blower.

BC, thanks again for all the help!
