Yes dyno tunes are safer, however tuning with a wideband gives you real time data. There i no way you can tune on a dyno what you can on the streets or track. Tuning on the dyno makes sure you have the right fuel going WOT, however what about normal driving conditions, highway, track, etc. This is why both of my buddies can run like they are because with a laptop and wideband they know exactly what the air/fuel ratio is as well as exhaust temps, spark, and etc with the laptop.

Like I said I can remember the posts on NLOC about how crazy it was to put a 2# crank pulley on and how extreme it was People dont give these trucks that much credit to hold together as they should

I think that's from the freak horror stories of motors coming apart at 450rwhp while another guy runs 500+ for a few years.I think people are too afraid to hit high HP because of the price of a built motor and aftermarket blower/turbo.I know that's my biggest concern.

thats where I differ from most, if it blows up, then it blows up, I'm not going to worry about it too much, because I know what it feels like to blow a motor on my 01 Lightning, and the cost of a built jdm motor back in 2002 when they were still new technology .

but it all goes back to the right a/f which like you said is the difference between blowing at 450rwhp and guys running 500+ on their daily drivers for years.

widebands are getting cheaper too, and many different ones. I have a NV series autometer wideband and love it!!! tons of other guys are running dynojets, aem, innovative and others

To do it all over again my first two purchases would be a Whipple and a wideband!!!!

on a side note has anybody else seen the thread on the kb/whipple on svtperformance, really good read check it out, has Jim Bell from KB and dustin from Whipple going at it, posting info, new blower pics, etc

this is page 4 of the thread

Ran 488hp on stocker for about a year, ran 11.8-9 with that setup(all the bolt-ons and a MP) and with good track prep. All boost you need over 470hp to dip 11s. Your friend dosent have enough mods, just on boost.
BC: very good reading, leaning towards a whipple in Oct. Still waiting on a retune JDM's busy!
What are your #s? Times? Thanks BC.
Those #s and times on 93...

No new times or data on my truck, waiting for my Whipple to get here from LFP, once I get it installed, 255 pumps, 60# injectors, and etc ill post up screen shots of it being tuned with the wideband.

No they are with 104 and hoosier slicks

here are the times list of both examples as well as my outdated times (Ihavealot more mods now, since I last ran at the track on 1/22/05), both dont have rwhp #'s because they dont tune on a dyno, and feel no need for one with real time data of the wideband:

4. Mark #2 --------------- 1.676, 11.593 @ 119.00 (00, Silver) 2CEFKL4MOSTUWZ (12-03-05)

A twin screw and bolt ons are plenty to get you into the 11's. No need for spray. There are a couple stock block KB guys running 11's here, and I should be in the 11's my next time out with my Whipple. I went a best of 12.11@110 (1.55 60ft) so far, and that was in 90* weather and 85% humidity. Should be a lot cooler next month when I go back, plus I'll have a couple of extra bolt ons and a new race tune.
