Default 93 lightning needs help

i've got a 93 lightning that i've been wanting to build but have been told by ford racing all i can do is pulley's headers and a blower without converting to a mass air system. ford racing had stopped selling the mass air conversion for the early lightnings. any ideas? thanks

Check Ebay for a Old MAF, or you might try Steeda.

Just slap a Vortech on there and call it a day!

From what Ive read up the only times that you need to use mass air is with some cams and turbos. If you havn't check out NLOC(national lightning owners club).net You can find a bunch on info on there.

Try Kenne Bell. My friend put one on his '93 and he loves it. Just don't put Nitrous on it too without help fine tuning it or you'll melt pistons just like him.

Forget the blower if you are going to have that many problems with mass-air. Yank the motor out, throw in a forged rotating assembly, some afr 200cc heads, cam and a good sized shot of nitrous and you'll be haulin *** in no time. Or you could leave it almost stock, intall a turbo kit and haul some more ***.

Default Here is your help

Do like I did and hand build you a motor. Mine is good for all most 400rwhp and 400rwtq and I am not done yet.

You can go a long way with the truck without mass air, but you will need to do some electronic tuning if you go beyond basic bolt-ons or a blower. Even with a blower, you'd be better off with some tuning help, but you can get by nicely with a boost retard and FMU.

The more naturally aspirated mods you do, the trickier tuning the SD setup becomes. The main thing you need to focus on is having a cam that won't upset the abilities of the stock SD. This limits you to fairly mild duration and wide overlap, but you can still build a pretty nicely running truck.

I've had 4 different mass air setups on one of my trucks and frankly, I consider all but the pricey Pro-M conversion to be pretty lousy. The Ford kit does decently if you spend the time to tune it, but then you're right back in the same boat as you would've been with the stock SD.

So, the question is, how far do you want to go?
