Default Z06 parts

I'm sure it's been covered before, and I didn't want to make a new thread but I couldn't get an answer in the cam thread.

I'm getting most of the valvetrain from an '03 Z06 for free.
-springs
-retainers
-seats
-timing chain
-cam
-pushrods

Question is how much of this should I use on my '03 5.3L? The Z06 pushrods are still 7.400" but do you guys recommend getting hardened rods that are 7.425" to take complete advantage of this cam?

Things for sure are the yellow springs and cam, but the other stuff I was curious about. Timing chain necessary?

if your gonna go with a bigger cam get hardened 7.4's. If your gonna run that cam and everything just swap it all over. The timing chain isnt necessary. Im still running the stock one in my 6.0 with a bigger cam. Unless your chain is haggered or really rusted dont worry about it

I'd like to know what the lifter preload turns out to be with the stock pushrods, I'd think it might be a little loose. Don't the Z06's have longer valves that make up for the smaller base cirlce of the cam?

that's what I've read. People say with stock 7.4" you get some noise but it's nothing to worry about...

I'm just going to sell this cam/parts and get a real cam until I go turbo

the only things you need to use are the springs and cam, the push rods will be an extra set of what you have now.
like already stated the Z06 cam is a good F I cam.
if you looking to get a little thump and grunt out of it i will suggest a diffrent cam with a better rpm range and more low end torque.
you may be a little disapointed when the exhaust sounds the same after you install it.

yep, the LS6 cam is basically sold to a member on here. I might get a bigger cam, but more than likely I'll finish some exterior work and do bags... If I ever get a RCSB NBS I'll make it fast
