Default XR259HR cam question

I can get a free comp cam XR259HR. 206/212 - .515/.522 - 112 LSA. Would it be worth it to install on a stock 5.3L with a tvs 1900? Or should I look for a cam for boost?

You can't beat free. The difference between that cam and a "boost" cam might be 10-15hp..

How about the 112 LSA on that cam, how would that work with boost?

Boost wants a wide LSA I think. Lots of guys like the LS6 cam for a low buck boost cam.

Yea, that's what I was always taught, boost = wider LSA...

That's what I kinda thought. I guess I'll just wait and buy a different cam.

ive seen more people running lower lsa's with boost recently, i think mangled has a TR112 with his procharger and likes it. yes usually with boost people like to go with wider lsa's and less overlap but imo its not a necessity unless your trying to max out the boost on your application.. but also dont think id go any lower than 112 with boost..

Yea, that's right, John does have a tighter LSA on his cam...hey, if it's free give it a shot, it may not be optimal but it could be cool to run it for a while, then switch to a more boost oriented cam and report back with gains/impressions
