Will a 6L crank work in a 5.3?

Probably wont mess with a 6L unless I can come up with some more money.

I'm sure you could get a stock 6L for the price it would cost to rebuild the 5.3
You're gonna have machine work, assembly, bolts, seals, bearings to add to pistons and rings

buy a 6.0 long block. if you put the 5.3 heads on a 6.0 it will raise the compression a lot. it will be cheaper that way.

What would my compression ratio be with an lq4 since they are cheaper and easier to find? I would have to get some machine work done to the heads for them to match the bore of the 6L right?

no, they will be fine. that would be a torque machine!
