Why do I keep trashing the same rocker arm?

I have all my numbers scratched down somewhere at home for my installed heights. Its the patriots 84 or 8501s i believe. Just got off the phone w/ Shane a thunder racing and he thinks that the cam is one tooth off. Im hoping this is not the case bc i took a million pics of the marks when it was installed. I will post them this afternoon for feedback and laughter if they truley are one off.

The reason I asked to see a pic of the heel was to see if it was off to the side like it is. The tip of the valve is not hitting square on the heel of the rocker and is causing stress on the rocker because it is crooked.

With the cam off one tooth it wouldn't affect just one rocker would it? I am positive that i set it properly! Hell I got TDC with a dial indicator and checked checked and rechecked a zillion times. I flipped the rocker rail upside down and swapped rockers around and they seem to be riding square now. Im just trying to line my ducks up before they hatch so I dont keep having the same problem.

No, being off a tooth wouldn't mess up like this. If you were off one tooth, it wouldn't run so good. Do you run guideplates for the PR's? If so, are they scraping at all? I really can't think of a reason this is happening.

Well as you know the head acts as the PR guideplate. No aftermarket guide plates though. The PRs look brand new as they should. It is vt geometry that is making it do this to the rocker. I have tried somethig new and may have solved my problem. Fingers are crossed but Im still waiting to find another stronger magnet to retrieve the pen magnet that is now stuck inside my headj

Being off a tooth would just retard or advance the cam 4*

My C5 is intentionally off a tooth. It runs great -- and exactly how I wanted it to run.

Since you've got it all open, did you degree the cam? Do the test I recommended above when you put the heads back on. It will easily and cheaply tell you if the pushrods are too long or too short (or correct) by where the roller tip spends its time on the valve tip.

Just because the pushrods look fine doesn't mean they are sized properly.. If you've got stock lifters, rockers, valves and pedistals then the only thing that can be different is the base circle of your camshaft or your pushrod length.. I agree it's probably got something to do with geometry, but why not pick up a cheap tool and rule that out? You'll quickly learn that you can't just pick up the phone and expect someone to be able to tell you what's going on. You have to do your own homework and measure it all out yourself. I'd be willing to bet if you put the stock pushrods back in you'd be in good shape unless you're running some crazy lift and bigass double springs, you'd be shocked how well the sock pushrods hold up. The hardened pushrods are insurance yes, but more often than not they cause more problems due to people trying to reinvent the wheel....

@ silver-mod-o, yes I do have double springs and a better than 600 lift cam so I cant see putting the stockers back in.. I understand what your saying though. Every build is different, I will wait on my checker and new rocker rail before I continue. I hope to have all of it back together by friday.
