Default What would be the benefit???

I bought a 67 swb chevy that I am using for my daily driver and I have a 4.8 and 4l60e from a 99. I was going to turn this into a iron block ls1 and I have a crank from a 5.3 and pistons from a ls1. What would be the benefit of just putting the 5.3 crank in and leaving the 4.8 rods and pistons or will that even work? I would like to build a 6.0 in place of the 4.8 for the original project that I was going to use the 4.8 for so it will be sitting there and I could use the mpg in the 67 truck. Should I just stick the stock motor in there and be done with it? Thanks to all.

Not completely sure but I think that the 4.8 rods are to long. As far as the iron block 5.7l goes you can use stock internals to keep the price down and have a reliable motor.

the 4.8 has longer connecting rods like stated above coupled with the 5.3 crank which is made for shorter connecting rods and i would imagine you might have some piston to valve clearance issues....

Probably leave it stock and stick a cam in it. How big a stall would I need for a 220?

in a truck of that era a 3000 stall would be nice!!! if you wanted to play a little harder move up to a 3200 or 3400 IMO... I DD a 3600 in a much heavier truck with no problems.
