they start out at 61cc Ive taken .050 off mine with a 222/.566 112 xe lobe cam
I wouldnt worry about it until you go over .060, its duration not lift

Another way is to call a reptuable machine shop in your area and tell them what you are trying to accomplish (what parts you are adding, power, etc.) They should be able to give you the answer you are looking for.

Its duration not lift you can have an inch of lift and take .050 off the heads with a 200 duration cam and the piston wont come near it.
does anybody read what I type, I give up.

If you worried about it just measure your valve drop, Richiard is gonna tell you stuff like that to be on the safe side doesnt mean he doesnt know whats up just he doesnt know everyones knowledge level.
You should be shooting for 11:1 to 11.5:1 SCR for that cam thats gonna work out to around .050 off depending on how much material is taken out of the CC if your going ported, the ls1 guys run truck heads with flat tops and .050 off and alot more aggressive cams, with a 5.3 youve got dished pistons to boot. Your no where near p/v.

.050 off a head makes a head thin

and you dont need that much off a head. to do it safer and cheaper get .030 off if you need that then get a .040 gasket. since you already need head gaskets why not get a thinner one instead of milling heads and running into intake alignment/sealing issues. also when you take a lot of the surface of the head you will also need to take material off the intake side

Right now I am just thinking I am going to mill the heads. No PP at this time. I am thinking I might get a spare set of 706 heads so i can do some math.

Edit after reading Quik's post:
So I guess I can save more money and just buy differant gaskkets to up my CR!?

sorry man but I disagree especially with the lsx style heads the way the engine is designed with space in between the intake and valley they will still match up its common for the ls1 guys to take just as much off thier heads, slimmer gaskets start to mess with quench area also.
