This was scraping a putty knife across the bottom of the oil pan once.

I took the barbell and soft plug out of the oil galley, and this is looking down it.

This is actually better on the outside than most engines I have seen from NY.

Almost looks like it was in a fire in the past.

I'm still not sure what actually happened. I spoke to the guy that worked on it. I know the truck has never been in a fire. The mechanic assumed it was from not changing the oil often enough. I know it was ticking and low oil pressure every once in a while. It is cleaning up pretty nice though. If I get time this week I will start the assembly. I would like to get the short block done.

Yes, Not changing it often enough and the oil rings cake up with carbon build up. He probably also ran it low on oil as a result a few times.

I have more of course but you get the point. That one spun 2 rod bearings and seized up on the guy while he was driving down the highway. What the hell they did I will never know. It was some small companies run around truck and they said they always ran 15W40 diesel oil in it. I think it was never changed and probably overheated. That said.... the heads on it were fine. Engine had like 163000 miles on it. Was a 2008 model year 4.8. I bought it soley for the heads and the intake manifold. Even the guides were still fine at that mileage and that amount of crud in it. The bores look good too although I never measured them. I was glad I got it for $100 lol. Now I think about it I am pretty certain those heads are what I had ported and are now on my turbo 6 liter.

15-40 diesel oil isn't what did it.... I've ran Rotella and wix filters in mine for the last 70K, and you can eat off the inside of the valve covers...

I didn't even remotely suggest that the oil they used did that to it.... just simply that's what was used. I don't know what they did.... or didn't do lol. Don't care either, their loss was my gain!
