Default typewriter volume

alright so i knwo after installed the typical comp918's many people hear a typewriter like tapping noise from the valvetrain. is this from the lifter rising and lowering aggressively? (poor terminology) how loud is this tapping supposed to be, i have cutouts and i could CLEARLY hear this from inside the cab with partial throttle, at idle and outside the car about 5ft away. i have also noticed this sound is quite intermittent. whats the difference between the typewriter like sound and piston slap and pinging?

I have had the 918's on our '01 truck for several years now and the valvetrain gets noisy at intermittent intervals. My Camaro also has intermittent valvetrain noise and it has dual springs. I can't tell if it's the faster acting cam ramps or the springs. The noise comes and goes and doesn't seem to be temperature related. So far no broken springs or lifters so it can't be too harmful.........
Piston slap and pinging have a completely different sound and frequency. I believe what your hearing is the valve lifters generating the noise.

Good luck,

Richard

In my personal opinion its the comp 918s, due to the fact with same lifters now that I have my DART heads valvetrain noise was ALOT quieter when the lifters were all good.
