Default Timing Chain Slack?

Just got the 408 shortblock from the engine shop and the timing chain has a good bit of slack on each side...is this normal? I had sent him the dampener to install but the dealer sold me one for an LS2 and it will not fit, cause the bolt holes are different. I may be worrying about nothing but would like to make sure before i go any further.

Thanks, Ryan

Yeah i just read over on Tech that it's common to have about a 1/2" slack so I think it will be fine.
