I picked it up today, but we have some problems. The old computer tune does not want to run the new 383. Any help in NC would be great!!!

Anyone that has the necessary equipment to write custom tunes in NC?

sounds badass, def need some 1/4 #s when you get everything straightend out! I am very interested in this as my brother has a 96 gmc w/ the 5.7 and we will be looking for the 383 swap eventually. Keep us updated!

I just saw an ad in Truckin' magazine...GM Performace Parts is offering a 383 crate motor that they state is a direct drop in for OBS trucks and SUV's...looks like they read your thread Mike lol

LOL, thanks Bud. Well I got the computer dialed in for the most part. Carolina Auto Masters in Durham NC to the rescue!! Although Jeff had a full schedule today, he made time for me because I was not running correctly. I opted for the full package and as soon as the motor is broken in I will return for the dyno tune. That should be a lot of fun!! The best thing is that he has almost all of the different tunning software suites on his machines and can tune from many different angles. I watched him get 360hp out of a bone stock C6 today. And to top it off, I can drop in any time I want and put the truck on the dyno for a check-up run at no charge.

So far, huge difference. The tranny is messing up. I am thinking it is a TCC selonoid from what I have seen. That is kinda killing the feel since the tranny does not downshift unless you are coming to a stop. But I will fix that this week. Even though the tranny does not downshift it still has a kick when you hit the gas and pulls the truck through. Nice torque. Dyno charts as soon as the motor is broken in!!

Awesome stuff, I am glad to see another L31 guy going for big power. teh most power I have seeen out of a 383 Vortec was 331 rwhp and 3801 rwtq. That was with teh stock intake and popets. Your upgraded spider's injectors are still rated at 19pph, so we will have to see what you dyno.

I wish I had your engine under my intake, then you could fuel whatever power you wanted.

BTW What cam you running??

That engine is teh HT383-E, its in teh new GMPP catalogue. It comes witha forged steel crank, PM rods, custom pistons, new Vortec distributer, new plugs and wires. You just install teh engine using teh stock intake and away you go.
the mild 196°/206° Ramjet 350/HT383 cam will run with teh stock PCM tuning, although for max power torque, GMPP says PCM tuining is required.

peace

Not sure about the cam yet, I know it sounds crazy, but I have not picked up the info from the shop yet. I was too excited to get the truck (nevermind the $7800 price), I just wrote the check and rolled with the truck. I have a meeting with the shop this week to talk about some things that were done during the install that I did not like and to arrange a valve adjustment.

We have been talking about an intake to replace the stock unit. I have been told that the carb intake for the vortecs can be modified with fuel injectors and opening up the mount for the throttle body. Only problem is that you will have to run an aftermarket fuel computer.

Hell, maybe I will just drop the 350 I just bought in it instead of the 383. After all, it has a powerdyne supercharger with a methane injection system.
