Don't be throwing rotten tomatoes now but I'm pretty anti LS especially when it comes to my OBS. The engine laid down a while back and its getting something bigger, better, and probably way overkill but thats how I like it. It is and only will be Gen 1 based and among other things will have a single turbo hanging off the side of it. Anyway production blocks aren't going to get it. The bowtie block is pretty nice but the SHP block is supposed to be the cats meow for a wet sump aftermarket race block that still accepts late model peripherals like the stock roller cam setup and possibly even the plastic vortec timing cover which I will be using to hold my crank sensor. Dart rates it at 600 hp but in the same breath they say this block is highly recommended for any setup producing more than 575 hp. Almost forgot. This is going to be a 400 build, 3.750 stroke and 4.125 bore with Callies Compstar possibly Dragonslayer crank and rods.

 

This isn't really the forum to ask then IMO. We're all LS people here for the most part.

 

I know but the 99 has one so thats why I'm here. And I know there are still guys on here running Gen 1s or previously did that might know a thing or two about a thing or two.

 

That is basically the engine I have in my Chevelle. It is actually a 408 though. It is a 3.75 stroke with a 4.165 bore. It is a Dart block, 4340 crank, billet rods, extreme duty JE pistons that are 9:1 compression. I run a Jesel belt drive with an MSD crank trigger and a roller cam. I have a pair of precision 61mm turbos, sheet metal intake, custom headers, and Brodix heads. It should be 1200+ HP at the 21PSI boost I plan on running.

I actually have came to like the LS engines though. The heads flow real well, the blocks are strong, rods are strong, they are a real nice design. If I was to do it over again, I would do an LS engine.

Don't be afraid of the older engines, I just wouldn't push a stock block real hard, I have a friend that cracked one from the cam to the crank naturally aspirated.
