Default Stock 6.0. should I put 5.3 heads on it or leave 317s with nitrous.

Ok so I have had my SS turbocharged for over 7 years. I want something different. I have sold the turbo kit and bought a stock LQ4 6.0. I'm installing it into the truck just for a weekend cruiser. I want it to have a bit of power but nothing crazy. So what should I do to it?

I was thinking of going with a cam and planning on spraying it with a 125 shot or somwhere close to that.

I have a .675 PRC spring kit with the comp 7.400 push rods and the trunion rocker upgrade. I also have ARP rod bolts and head bolts.

I was thinking of just adding a cam and then running the stock compression.

Or would it be better to run a set of ported 5.3 heads?

I will have full bolt-ons as well. I'd be happy with 400hp on just motor and 500 with spray. is this duable with the factory compression and factory 317s with just a cam and full bolt-ons? I have a 4l80 in the truck with a 3200-3400 circle D converter. I would like a nice choppy cam but don't want to hurt the performance either.

I'm not looking for a race truck. I have 2 S10s so i want to work on making the light trucks fast. I'm tired of trying the make the fullsize truck fast. it ran a 12.5 in the past. but with having a newborn I'm just looking to build the SS for a fun cruiser.

I have yet to start looking for cam's yet because I want to find out if 400hp is duable from a stock lq4 with 317s. I'm also planning on adding the ARP rod bolts as well.

Don't be scared of compression. Nitrous loves it and it will perform better in general. I would run the ported 5.3 heads if you can keep compression around 11:1

Yes, and yes.

My truck put 400rwhp down with stock 317s. I put up a dyno sheet and a mods list awhile back.

I run a 114 lsa. Still has a decent chop.

I'm not really scared of the compression. But I didn't want to switch heads if there wasn't going to be a noticable difference. I have 3 set's of factory 317 heads sitting in the garage. So if the 317s head would preform the same I was just going to run them. But if more power can be had with 5.3 heads I'd run those instead.

I don't really know much about N/A LS engines. since the last 7 years have all been boost for me. I will go back with boost but on My SS S10 way lighter than the full size SS

So I'm leaning towards the PRC 2.5 5.3L heads with a Torquer v2 cam with a 112LSA. Nothing is set in stone but thats what i'm thinking. I'd like to bring the compression up and I think the 5.3 heads will get me right where I'd like to be. I'd be happy with 400 hp N/A then for track fun throw some Nitrous at it. Picked up A LQ4 long block tonight. with 100K on it.

Its not like I will be using it all the time. I might use it a few times at the track to see how the truck runs
I had nitrous on this truck for 3 years and only ran a few bottles through it. I never once upped the jets once.I installed it and ran it I was happy and never felt the need to to run any faster. But I get what your saying.

Are you gonna go threw the lq4 you just bought? If so throw some stock ls2 pistons in it while your at it mill the 317's down .030 throw a 224/228 or something along them lines in it with a healthy shot of nitrous and you'll be there. Lets get real Shawn you always build nice things. I'd bet you will be way deep into this before she runs again haha I would run the 317 over them 5.3 heads anyday!

I'm trying to tell myself not to dump a lot into this. but Im finding it hard to do. at first it was just going to be a stock 6.0L and here we are with wanting to do a cam and heads along with Nitrous. So will see. I'm trying to hold off for a Cts-v But I'm sure this motor will be a snowball effect and turn into more than I need.
