The 4 bolt main block isn't in any better shape, but I at least have a definite 4 bolt main block. Looks like it will be going to the machine shop friday. Bored 30 over, honed, block tested and all that jazz. My buddy said the guy he uses will charge $130 to do it all. I will see how things check out, then order a rebuild kit from there. I have half a mind to convert it to a 383 stroker while im doing all this, but I can't bring myself to dish out another $300 or so for crank and rods. Hmm, the quest for never ending power!
Looks like I might be going with a little healthier cam and go ahead and stick a stall in it. Might as well at this point!
Can anyone recommend a good non-roller cam for a set of vortec heads?

I had the motor dismantled in the bed of the pickup. I had the block strapped down but not the crank. Car in front of me slammed on the brakes after cresting a hill, once I crest the hill I locked down the brakesm, only to hear my crank go bouncing along.
So at the recommendation of a few engine builders, I am going to toss the crank. I don't want to risk something being wrong with it on a fresh build. I am ordering a Eagle 383 stroker kit as soon as I hear back from the machine shop. My $800 budget has been blown all to pieces, but I am still trying to slim the price on the build up where I can, without risking junky parts. Now I am around $2000 for my budget to get the car on the road.
Looks like I will be going with a cam in the 290 range, so a stall will be in my future after all. I am really hoping to break the 400hp mark.

Well, my initial budget is back on target. I picked up my block from the machine shop and dropped it off at my buddies garage. There was a guy in there saying he had a car with a mild roller 350 and fresh transmission. He built it for a guy, only had labor involved, customer supplied all parts.. The guy never came up with the money to pay him for the work.
He had paper work on the car and just wanted his labor money back because he was in a severe crunch. I picked up the car for $400. Has everything I need except wheels and tires to get my project car on the road.

I am still going to build my 383 stroker, but I am going to slow down and be a little more picky with it rather then just slapping something together real quick.

Someone tried to get me to sell my Malibu to them today, and was very upset that I wouldn't. My buddy says there is at least one person a week that tries to buy it.
I have an offer of $400 on the cutlass as a rolling chassis, from a guy online. Too cool!

Sorry to hear about the budget, but it'll be a much meaner ride now
