What induction are you going with? 500+ should not be a problem but it may be a handfull to drive in town. My 482 is supposed to be 700+ hp and it gets interesting with a stick shift.

I guess the question should be what do you want to use your truck for?

Also with enough cam you can get away with more static compression. Goes back to what you want to deal with and how the truck will be used. My 482 is Naturally aspirated.

Why don't you keep the stock crank and just get pistons & rods? I mean if the stocker is in good condition.

I'm a complete newbie on engine builds but I've read here the stock crank can handle like 700-800hp or something like that. If you're on a budget I would at least try a search.

Good luck and keep us posted, would like to hear how it turns out.

bc there is only a slight difference when it comes to price between say 347 and 383 kits. why not pay 400 bucks more for a forged name brand crank? i def would just for the piece of mind knowing i had quality parts but thats just me, to each his own, it pays to play.

My bad, for some reason I was thinking the 383 used the same 3.62 stroke as the stock engine. It's the LS1 the one using it.
Thanks for clarifying.
