Default Single or Split Pattern Cam?

Here's the setup and what I've been considering...

LQ9, 10:1 comp, WCCH StageII 317's
Circle-D 258mm 3000-3200
4:10 gears

Here's what has me thinking of the exhaust duration:
1 3/4 primary StainlessWork LT's, 2 1/2" collectors, 2 1/2" y-pipe, gutted cats...3" cutout
Magnafow 18" 5/8 dumped after axle.

Now the exhaust won't be optimal when the cutout is closed, so I was thinking of a Comp 224/230 .581/.588 114 (XER lobes, 222 ICL <2* advance>)

But with the cutout open, even with the smaller collectors, I've been thinking that maybe a TSP 224r (224/224 .581/.581...thinkin' on a 112, not sure what the ICL is...) might be better and will still perform well overall?

Or maybe a custom grind somewhere in between?

The collectors and y-pipe are staying because I need the "cats" for Jersey inspection, and it will be a long time before I could justify spending money on the collectors, y-pipe, 3" "cats", etc.

I'd really reconsider the 2.5" collectors and pipe, and if the cats are gutted ditch em'. Pipe max said for my set up that 3" collectors were minimum I run 3" true duals and I have more bottom end then I know what to do with. I don't have a prayer on radials from a dig... your gonna have better flowing heads and the split pattern is slightly bigger then my current cam with better ramps. I made 488 RW ft/lbs. at 3000 rpm.

I like the looks of the comp cam better

I think he needs the cats for visual inspection so he cant ditch them even if they are gutted.
What are you wanting to shift this thing at? imo that would come into play some for cam choice whether or not your willing to spin this thing up some, or just a nice weekend driver..? which im assuming the latter because of your smaller cam choices for a lq9..

StainlessWorks will pretty much give you whatever size collectors that you want, but back when I bought them I actually got a great deal on them because they weren't sure if they'd fit my year truck so I "test fit" them, and they worked out great. But yea, I'd love to put bigger everything on it, but don't have the dough so I need to work around what I've got for the time being, or longer lol...and yessir, I need the cats for the NJ visual inspection...they have to be there as they stick a mirror under there and check, at least they do to me every time

How high do you think that I'd have to shift with those cam choices in that setup? I hadn't really thought about it too much yet...good point

BTW, before I started considering these cams I was dead set on a TrickFLow 220/224 .575/.575 112, and keeping the 3.73 gears to help keep costs down...this is still an option also...

Stainless works offers 3 inch collectors on all there truck headers at this point.

BIlly
I think that i would possibly try to run a true dual set up 2.5, get the cam you want now. True 2.5 should be more then enough for that engine set up.. Other wise might want to stay with the split cam, just for some extra breath on the exhaust side. Either way i still don't think it is going to be all that bad. Alot of guys have made big power with small exhaust set ups

BTw i am running the 224R cam from TSP with 3 inch, to 4 inch single, shift it at 6300ish with fuel cut off at 6500

Originally I had a true dual setup planned, then gathered some parts for this single setup with the cutout, I've already got to parts, just need to get them welded together...need time and money

if it were me id probably go with a 228r if your wanting a off the shelf single, or a little bit bigger for a split(somewhere around 228/232) on a 112+4 and shift it around 6700-6600. im no cam expert by any means, but i still think you can go bigger than what you listed and have a great dd with a good tune, again just my opinion.
either way no matter what cam you put in, id bump up the comp a little more(10.5area) if you always run the higher octane and never tow with it, oh and drive around with the cutout open all the time..

With a 224 in a 6.0 you will prolly pull to around 62-6300 depending on setup..
