School me on Reliability
#1
Looking into doing a 5.3 swap into my 240sx, but I've heard alot of nightmare stories with valve lift at high rpm runs.
I'm looking at possibly running a mild cam for some upper rpm power and would like to find a spring/retainer set that would drastically increase high rpm/ rev limiter reliability.
I'm not used to asking for handouts but I literally have no idea where to start researching about this.
p.s. Is switching to a LSx head worth the trouble [power/reliability]?

which 5.3...there are 3 that I know of. How high is high? Many of us run them to 6600-6700 without problems (with aftermarket springs, of course).
Welcome to the site and even though you don't have a truck there is probably not too many sites with the database we have of this engine.
Heads will depend on what you have to start with.

you could run a stock motor to hell and back, countless times i hit the revlimiter or run
these motors dont like old people, you need to drive them and drive them hard
in years of owning silvys and seeing thousands of them for sale its the people babying thim that replace tranny's every month and motor every 60k
all these nightmare stories about the 60e's and mine is just fine at 125k, on 35's for 60k, 6.0 and converter for 15k, dont be scared to drive it hard

....You could count replacing an entire transmission as a service....

Until this service... I have been.
It was slipping a bit when I bought the truck with 40k on it, rear dif went out at 51k, transmission at 52k. 3rd party warentee company sent a whole new rear end, threw it in, it went at 97k, took the transmission with it. now at 150, I'm going to have to do my first true 50,000 mile service.
