Default rod length

i am about to install a 212/218 on a 114lsa in a 5.3 and i was wondering if u need to change the rods and if so what size

You don't have to change the rods but you should. Studies have shown in higher RPM ranges the stock LSx pushrods have a tendency to deflect and slightly bow causing a sudden loss of high RPM HP and torque. You will see how irratic the powerband gets. I don't have my LS1 book here at work to scan in the graphs but it's quite interesting.
