General rule of thumb, how does a resonator change the sound vs a muffler? What bugs me most is the exhaust is now so raspy/metallic it sounds like a old beat up pickup with rusted out exhaust. I wish I had the deeper cleaner tone back if that's possible.

My exhaust is 3.5" before the muffler so that may eliminate some options too

I have dual 3 inch and have a magnaflow 6 inch round x 20 muffler up front, worked out great. My trucks only a little louder than stock. These mufflers are a straight thru style too, all the rasp is gone.

Ugh, looks like needing 3.5" eliminates lots of choices. So far I've found borla xr-1 round, and magnaflow race mufflers.

Vibrant doesn't make the ultra quiet in 3.5, but the make a 3.5 Street power muffer, anyone have experience with those?

Vibrant Performance ::.

If my goal is to turn the volume down several notches and take away that metallic rasp, will the straight through muffler so that, or do I need a resonator in combination?

I'm dying to hear how his setup sounds. He's put a shitton of work and it looks great I'm just hoping it sounds gore at to match.

What are the specs on your truck? Mods and power adders?

Stainless works 1 3/4 headers to a pair of fake cats (visual inspection ) then a jones 3 inch stainless x pipe, next a set of 6 inch round x 20 magnaflows and finally to tone it totally quiet 5x11x22 mufflers and tail pipes out the corners . It's stock sounding and almost too quiet.

I tried to quiet it down a few ways before adding the round mufflers. I had where the 6 inch round mufflers a set of 4 inch round and it was raspy real bad. I tried a flopro big oval and it was quiet but horrible and then a pair of big dynomax mufflers. They made it quieter but not what I wanted. Although i might try those dynomax mufflers and see how they sound now with the round mufflers.

The key is mufflers or resonators up front before the bigger muffler.
