Fellas, this is what I'm thinking, I do believe the cam is a little on the big side for this old 5.3 with 200k miles, it does have a bad fuel regulator btw, when the truck went 8.80s it was in some lot cooler air, so
I'm going to change the exhaust, fix the regulator and try it again, got a lq4 sitting on a engine stand with ported heads and camshaft but just wanted to see what the old 5.3 will do, and also just got my camshaft and verter for my 6.2 truck, to many projects lol! I'll post back up the results from the out come this weekend, Thanks for the help!

Guy's for got I posted this, but the truck is still doing it, it'll run 8.50's and 7.60's on a 100 shot, but the tick is crazy, it'll do it for a few minutes then stop, drive it 50 miles and it may do it for 5 of the fifty, not really bothering me but wanting to sell the truck and it's kind of a deal killer, noticed lately that the oil pressure is getting a little lower, thought about throwing a oil pump in it, truck runs good other than that no oil use, smoking etc, no power lost, any ideas, any ideas. THANKS!

The intermittent tick your describing sounds just like the tick my truck was making. The problem with mine was that a few years back I installed the wrong oil pump pickup tube o-ring. Yours might be getting hard or shrinking and letting the pump suck in air.

I had the same issue years ago, installed wrong o-ring after the cam swap. Put a the correct truck style o-ring on and all was good.
