Default Pulling Heads on 5.3l

In order to fix a broken exhaust manifold bolt, I have to pull the heads off of my 'Hoe. I am looking to increase some ponies while I'm in there, without dumping a bunch of money at it. Currently to be replaced is gaskets, lifters (probably push rods as well), head bolts and a trip to the machine shop for the heads. Has on it right now is short tubes (got them for free don't judge) and a CAI.
If I can find some way to unlock some ponies in there I want to get it tuned by BBP and have some fun with it, but I'm not looking at spending a whole lot more than what its going to cost for the repair.
Would taking the head down a bit to bump the CR be worth doing? I also have a good friend looking to unload some 1.8 yella rockers for pretty cheap, but it seems to have mixed reviews on the site. I also know everyone on here wants a new cam, but what can I do with the factory cam? I dont know if I want to throw another grand at it to press in new cam bearings and a new cam, but if I can find a cheap used one that might be a possibility.
Also see a few people doing the intake swap, while needing to modify the fuel rail, injector wires and idler pulley bracket. For my setup, would that be worth it?

You don't need to replace the bearings when swapping cams.

Have you tried the welder trick on the broken exhaust bolts?

I agree but there's a chance if I pull the factory cam and don't like what I see.

Don't know it, but when the head came off of the bolt I pulled the exhaust manifold filled it full of liquid steel, tapped it and it held for a few years. It's free spinning now and sounds like hell haha.

Not happening. It the furthest back on the drivers side. Only way to get a drill tap and heli coil in it is to pull head or pull motor.

Going to be pulling head off this weekend anyone have any suggestions on + CR? Decided to go with a cam, lifters, springs and rods, will the factory rockers hold down the increased load? My hookup on 1.8s sold em already. Comp cams sells kit, but why do I need new timing set? Doesn't make sense to me.

Sorry for the slow response work too many hours.

Milling heads is not worth the trouble, your not going to be able to tell difference. Spend your money on a tune, cam, springs, and push rods or just have the exh stud fixed and put the eng back together as is.

If you're planning on having the heads checked for flatness or just having them surfaced so you know they're flat, then you might as well have the machinist chop off .030-.050". Then make sure you size your pushrods accordingly.

Factory rockers are perfectly fine. If you want a nice high torque cam, private message Stock48. He'll hook you up with a custom ISKY cam.

How many miles does your engine have on it?

+1 on the Isky and springs, tune, call it a wrap.
