Default ported ls6 heads vs stock ls3 heads

i was just offered a pair of stock complete ls3 heads for $400. i was going to run my p&p ls6 heads on my 6L but it seems this might be a good deal. what do you guys think? are the heads worth $400 and would they flow better than my ported ls6 heads?

i understand i will need a new intake and all that good stuff. it is still turbo charged.

what would make more power compression or flow? 320 vs 340 or 9.8:1 vs 10.4:1?

What are the specs on your ported LS6 heads?

As to your second question, at those cr levels, I would opt for flow over compression on a turbo setup.

Do you think you might lose low end torque with the larger runners? It may not be that bad with your stall but, I would want all the bottom end I could get in a heavy AWD SUV.

They are home ported heads And stock valves. A buddy of mine ported them for fun the had them flowed. They were over 320 at .600, he didn't need them any more and gave them to me. It's what I had on the 5.3 for a long time. When it went it only dinged up one cyl but not bad enough to hurt the heads.

I would shoot more for the better CR. It will help over the whole power curve versus just the top end of a larger head. Besides, that's what the turbo is for.

The guys doing my cam swap have done turbo builds on several different LS cars and have had more success keeping the heads on the conservative side.

i was kinda thinking the same thing. that and getting as much low end grunt to get this heavy mother moving is good. not to mention after adding it all up it would cost a good amount to convert over. between the tb, intake and x-link.

The exhaust on the LS3s are very limited without porting but if it lowers compression you could turn up the boost a bit. The turbo is gonna make the power anyway and its not like 9.8 is low but it probably would lose some low end due to larger ports of the LS3. Don't really think its worth all the trouble...not enough difference for all the hassle. Ported LS3s yes but not stock.
