Default Ok, guys....this is what I'm looking at....comments welcome!!!

After must thought....this is what I'm thinking for the engine. I'm looking at the SLP ZL-402 package. Probably the main reason is so I can save some costs(and a rebuild or two) by going with this setup and not having to bore the engine. This rotating assembly has the 4-inch. throw crank, the 6.125 I-beam rod, and the Ross and Manely 4 inch forged piston. I think I'm going to stay with my current heads( 6.0L hand ported/polished/milled .030) and go up to the Thunder Racing 230/236 .590/.598 112 LSA cam. I'm going to have my converter reworked to a 3500.
Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll have the F.A.S.T intake/throttlebody on top, but will at least be running the stock ls6 setup.

So, what do you guys think about the engine setup? Guys running this setup....comments please. I'm mainly interested in saving some money here and there(since I already have the 6.0L and will not be boring out the engine). Will the heads I'm running be good enough for this setup?

You might also check out Texas Speed & Performance. I think they have a 402 short block for $3600. That combo sounds like it should really perform well. Are you staying N/A or going for a little juice?

It kinda depends on what times it hits on motor and who I happen to be racing. I'll check out Texas Speed. Thanks for the info.

Also check SDPC, I think their shortblocks come with a warranty. Something the SLPs do not.

You might want to re-think about that SLP 402.

Yeah I was going to say slow Ross pistons are a POS IMO. Honestly I hate Je for their customer service but their pistons are good quality. If it was me Slow I would buy everything seperate get an EAGLE crank(be forwarned you will ahve to have some machining done), Eagle rods are good, JE pistons or Mahle are pretty good Diamond pistons are popular but heavy. Less rotating weight the faster the motor will wrap up. The cam seems fine but you could get away with bigger. Im going to be running a 237/242 112lsa cam in my 418 with a 3200 stall. We will see how it runs and Ill let you know. I think you can get away with a bigger cam than that though honestly. 2bseen is running almost the exact cam in his SSS with a 3400 stall in a 408 you can go bigger.

Have you talked to Futral? He can build any combination you want. Get some prices from him before you jump on one of those package deals.

Why are diamonds thought of as heavier? Are there any apples to apples comparos? The only pistons I could find on the web from JE or Mahle are not 4" stroke pistons (3.5"). For instance, my 4.030, 4" stroke, dished, FI, diamond pistons are 432 grams. The only JEs I saw for the 3.5" stroke were 88% of the size (3.54") and 97% of the weight (420 grams).

I think the only real way to compare piston weights is same spec piston vs. same spec piston (material, coatings, size, dish, etc.)
