Oil pump install question

What size gauges are used to align the oil pump when installing? I've seen a lot of debate about whether or not it's necessary, but engine builder recommended it so I'm planning on it. Thanks in advance!!

I used 6 .0015 shims, but my pump is coated. Normal is .002 range

I use 3 .002 (12 o clock, 4:30 and 7:30, ish)

6 is better.

Sierra, what is you pump coated with?
