When I got my truck the pickup tube was literally submerged in sludge. It was probably 1.5 inches across the bottom of the pan. Oil pressure was half of what it should have been. WOT only went to like 40psi, idled around 15psi. Pump just had to work really hard to pull oil through that sludge. The oil pan was completely trashed, but my buddy took that engine, put a new pump, oil pan, cam in it and stuck it in his f-body. Still runs great even racing it around, 50+psi at idle now.

After my cam swap, the truck was eating oil. About a 1/4 quart every 100 miles. Got a new PCV valve after, not one drop of oil burned the last 2500 miles.
