Default odd cam speced by pat g?

i got pat g to spec me a cam, and don't get me wrong, i trust that pat g has made the best decision, but it kinda wowed me and have never heard of anyone running a cam like this. he said it's a "thumper" style cam. specs on the truck or its a RCSB 82 c10 with a 5.3l lm7/4l60e. stock bore/strock/compression/heads with a circle d 3000-3200, NNBS intake manifold (TBSS manifold), 1 3/4" mid tube headers with a 3" collector, 2.5" x pipe exhaust, CAI, transgo HD2 shift kit, vette servo, 4.11 gears and 29" tire. 3800-3900 lbs

Truck will be daily driven and taken to the drag strip every now and then. i told him i wanted it to sound mean, perform at the drag strip and autocross, and drive it everyday

he speced me a 212/224 .558/.566 XE lobes 107 intake centerline with a 111 LSA + 4 advance. with PAC1218 spring and hardened chromoly 7.400" pushrods. shift points at 6200 rpm and 6400 rpm rev limiter

i originally was going to get the tsp220-112, but decided pat g was more qualified to choose my cam than i was. anyone been skeptical about a cam he has speced and then been wowed by what he has speced?

It should make good torque and sound good, doesnt seem odd to me. Should be a good runner.

For your application I doubt youll be able to tell much difference between the two. The one he specd ought to talk pretty good in a 5.3. I'd say either will do what you want just fine.

I specd 5 cams from pat , installed one , 4 in the box 2 are going in 2 408ci motors and 1 is going in 2500HD with ly6

I trust pat, but if you have any doubts contact him , he is a stand up guy and will explain hes choice

BUT , I too see that this is rather smallish cam

what kind of heads do you have ? old ones or the new 243/799 s

what is your CR ?

just fwiw , my first pat G cam for a 5.3 on the truck on my sig was

219/222 .607/.602 @ 111+4 LSA very mean sounding and great daily driver , tq almost every where , exactly what the truck needed and jumbed from 300whp to 365whp and from 327rwtq to 378rwtq

thats 65 hp and 51 tq .. on the same dyno/tuner

installed it on my 6.0 swaped motor , and all I can say is wow , it didnt pull up high like what i expected , but tires smoke like a chimney , with auto 4wd mode , the truck buts all 4 passengers in the seat pritty strong

sorry for the long post , but I realy liked that cam , you might want to try to discuss this matter with him

The reason you question it is because of this:

i told him i wanted it to sound mean, perform at the drag strip and autocross, and drive it everyday
If you want the "best", you can only have 2 of those 3 at one time. The cam he picked looks like a solid compromise between all 3.

I agree, should make for a good cam.
