New Lifters
#1
I bought everything to put new lifters in my truck, the ones in it now are the factory ones and are starting to make noise, but I wont be home for college for another 3 weeks to do this
I bought the new GM LS7 ones that fit everything, do I need to change pushrod length? I have 7.4s in it now
Is there anything else I should change/look at while I have the heads off? This is the last time I plan to take them off
I got
New Headgaskets
GM LS7 lifters
Ebay Headstuds
GM LS2 lifter trays
Anything else?

Yea throw those LS7 lifters out and get something else!
I only say that because I had to have a shop replace brand new LS7 lifters because 1 or 2 of them would collapse after like 30min of driving and would sound worse than a diesel.
A few others around here have had problems with them to. But it seems to be a rare issue compared to everyone else that use them.

I have the factory lq4 lifters in it now that are making the noise
I have read about the LS7 lifters going bad but they are the ones GM uses across the board? Like if you bought a crate engine wouldn't those be the ones in it
Whats the upgrade from the factory ones? This isnt a race truck or anything just a DD i like to mess around in and I dont have an unlimited budget here, like I really liked the fact that the LS7 lifters were $100 shipped
But i would like something that would last so I dont have to take the heads off again...

Did a quick search on summit to see what they have and it seems like everyone makes a OE lifter and then theres the link ones
Are the linked lifters better? Crane has a set for $200 has anyone used them?
Summit lists Trick flow, comp, and howards with OE style lifters, are there more out there?
Also while im talking about valvetrain how necessary is the comp trunion upgrade? Is something I should do asap or not so much?

LS7 lifters are just fine. Just make sure you buy the ones from Delco or GMPP that comes in packs of 8. The ones that seem to have issue were the white box ones sold as singles.
When I was looking at lifters, my conclusion was either use LS7s or buy the $500+ Morel/Lunati link bar lifters with the bigger wheel.

Well the ones I bought were off ebay and the seller said they arent in boxes because he bought them in wholesale or what ever and they dont come in sets of 16, I havent put these in yet but should I spend extra money on getting comps or howards?

So I checked my current pre-load and its coming out around 3/4 of turn before the torque wrench clicks, so around .075. From reading around this is fine for stock lifters correct? But what is desirable for the LS7s? And I know I should buy the comp pushrod checker i a going to do that
