Just trying to get some opinions. How long or many miles do you all go on break in oil?

Most people don't with the LS motors. Just run it 500 miles then change the oil run it another 500 change it again. If everything is kosher your good. That is a pretty common proceedure. Try running something with the the high zinc etc... These LS motors are damn near a miracle.

Its not a daily and doesn't get alot of miles. I ran my last lq4 500 before I changed it. But I wanted to see if anyone had any other idea's. I'm breaking it in on Castrol with an additive and I wanna go to Amsoil afterword. I'm not sure I wanna go a full 1000 miles before I switch it over. I'm think about changing it at 150 then castrol again for 150, then switching. It will take me 3 months to put that many miles on it... That why I am asking for "opinions"....

Not that im an authority on it by any means but after assembling a fresh motor I bring it up to operating temp and check for leaks. If all is good I shut it down and do a hot oil drain and filter swap. If the oil and cut open filter look good I top it off with new stuff and roll. After a couple hundred I'll swap it again.

Thats what id suggest..
on my brothers mud truck we would do something similar.. then go out in the pasture and run the ever living crap out of it. come back and do another change.. if it lived thru that 8000rpm torture then it was ok for a couple years.

I did the Joe Gibbs break-in oil for 100 miles and up to 500 miles before switching to another brand.

Like said before I drained them both hot and cut open the filters to see if there was any bad news.

Motor has maybe 10K on it now and still runs like a raped ape...

Im in the process now and changed once I got to operating temp,50 miles,100miles and now at 500. yeah maybe overkill but no problems so far. Open first oil filter and nothing it looks normal but oil did have light greyish tint from assembly lube.

cheap oil for the first heat cycle , drain oil , check filter, put some ZDDP rich oil drive spirited driving for 100 miles with RPM on the 4000rpm and less, drain and check filter, change oil with ZDDP rich oil , drive 500 miles same as the first 100 , change to a regular oil , if you have somthing with high performance pistons/rings
its better to keep a high ZDDP oil 1000-1200ppm+ is what you should look for

have been doing alot of reading about the oil , this is my research summary
