I would honestly do that converter first....I think you will be much happier with that purchase. This coming from a guy who a Ported Head, HT1 Cammed 5.3 with stock converter....big trucks with small engines need small cams and big converters.

Keep the cam, put in a 3200 stall, purchase some ported 799s from SDPC (shameless plug ). I think you will be very happy with the low end performance of the smaller cam and converter and really pleased with top end of a ported 799 casting!
