your short block is capible of going past 6500. but 6500 is a safe zone for stockers.

it was an old motor that was abused it's entire life lol. i'm surpriesd it ran that long and ran that good! my buddy that had it before me had a ms4 with a 200 shot spinning to 7k from 20,000 miles when he got the car...i got the motor at 120,000 miles for $275 and spun it to 69-7300 up to 150-160,000 miles. it also had countless bottles through it.

the rod end was still intact and the bolts were perfectly fine.

Any more tips out there??
i would save the bolts for a fresh build IMO. 6500 is a safe RPM for these engines...do a search on broken rod bolts or engine failure due to rod bolts and tell us what you find.

Also when and if you do ARP bolts you will need to hone the rod big end as the ARP bolts clamp down with more pressure causing the rod big end to become out of round.

I have done it and had great results, no problems with mine, no re-sizing or anything

lots of guys have great results. a few people have spun bearings after.

i know the ARP bolt is superrior, but why risk the small chance of a spun spun rod bearing if there is not a huge failure rate of the stock bolts to 6500rpm (or a failure at all that i know of)

to answer your question, torque the arp bolts 40 ft lbs. i just installed some and the instructions said to do 40 so i went with what it said.
