A good cam for a 5.3 ecsb I think would be a 245/248. 643/643 on a 108lsa+2 perty good and choppy !

^^^ j/k can't go wrong with a quick search and depending on your stall speed. Gear ratio over all weight and intake and exhaust mods , once you have all tha figured out it will be easier to make a wise choice o a cam good luck

You can mill the heads if you wanna bump compression, but its not necessary. Change springs and you'll be good to go! As far as headers, Pacesetter makes an economical header. Kooks or Dynatech make quality stuff as well if you want to spend some extra coin.

If you're on a budget, the HT1Cam w/ LS6 Springs can be had for under $450. Add a set of Pacesetter LTs Y/Pipe for another $550 and you have yourself a good running truck.

550 for all that sounds good! Off topic. Truck always says low coolant but then I look and it's fine....

There's a coolant level sensor in the overflow, it may be faulty or sticking, or the wiring/connector to it may be corroded.
