Default Need advice 5.3 cam swap

Hey so I have a 2008 Silverado with long tube headers ,carven exhaust, k and n cold air intake and I'm looking to cam my truck. It's a 5.3 with the 4l60e tranny and I'm wondering what stall to get. Should I get the 3200 ? Or the 3600? Also what advice would you give me on what cam to get . I'lately I've been looking at the 228/228r .600 lift cam or the 228/232 cam off Texas speed preformance. I will also get the ls7 lifters.

Do you plan on driving it a lot or is it a toy? I put a 218/224 on a 110LSA cam in my 5.3 and even with a 3000 stall, it was still kinda flat down low with 3.73's. If the truck is a toy, then maybe look at cams that big, go at least 3600 stall and deep gears and have a blast. If you plan on driving it daily, I would look at cams that are quite a bit smaller and keep the stall to somewhere around a 3000 and 4.10 or so gears.

I was looking at these cams (228r and 228/232) when I decided on the 224r. I called TSP looking for some more info and got a hold of Beau. If I recall correctly (it's been a while since I did my cam swap) he said the 228/232 was a lot of cam on stock 862's and it wouldn't really shine without heads that could flow with them. The 228r on 112 was the highest he recommended for my set up (Stock 862's LT's CAI 3200 stall 4.10's 4200 pounds) but said that even it might be lazy down low. It might be a better cam for you and work beautifully but I opted for the 224r and man it's a strong puller from 3000-6500. It's well mannered on the streets and there's no doubt it's cammed when you hear it. This was my short experience with those cams and some of the knowledge that TSP shared with me. Best of luck!

Either of those cams are pretty large for a DD 5.3 in a truck. Honestly they will lose quite a bit down low vs a smaller cam and will give you quite a bit mid range and upper rpm, but the upper range is barely used so its not worth it imo.
If you want a choppy cam that drives easy and has more useable power, our high lift hot cam is the one for you.
For PT.net memebers its $500 so save $15!
Here is a video and i linked it above. Drives and tunes VERY easy and good on the mpg also

I got a comp 54-451-11 to put in my truck in a month. If you're gonna daily that thing, I would probably stick to something that can get it moving a little better. Something with duration at .050 below 224*....

Just based on my own experience, I would ditch the LS7 lifters for something more reliable like Johnsons. I ate two cams when LS7 lifters failed and that was with a less aggressive cam. Running Johnsons now and am much more at ease about putting my foot into it. Yeah, the cost more but not nearly as much as going through the motor when you wipe a cam lobe. You're going to need to upgrade your springs as well. I'm running a TSP 233/239 .600 112 lsa in my stroker with a Circle D triple disc 3400 stall and she's my DD...and she screams!!!

Yeah I have a couple of videos if you want to PM your number. But $200 for a brand new stall is a helluva deal!

Delphi ls7 lifters are much better than the 2 eaton lifters out. We have had 0 issues in the thousands of sets sold. We buy them 400 sets at a time.

I also haven't had any issues with the LS7 lifters personally.
