It could deflect as it's cutting, and you get a oblong bore or big in some area and not in another by trying to get greedy with how much you take out. Problem with doing it right..is it takes all freakin day to take out that much material and he didn't get paid to run the machine and have a guy on it all day. So the complaint. But regardless of what he was being paid, he still did it right.
Yeah, you could look at it like that really not too smart imo.Part of my point was hes already out of patients, time, and money before the job barley started...So unless hes your buddy you wont get any extra out of quality control from a builder at this point.Professionals do not complain and that is not my opinion.

Well, these guys really are pros and have been doing this for a looong time. I just don't think they do too many overbores like that. His complaint was really just about having the machine and one of his guys tied up for so long on this block, maybe he was just looking for a sincere thanks for doing it for the original agreed upon price. He didn't realize at first that he'd have to remove that much material. I have faith that they did it right but I'd like to check the wall thicknesses anyways. Some guys says the wall will be thin and some guys say that there will absolutely be no issue. Heck, one machinist on another site claimed that he'd bored several LM7's to 4.00"(!) and that they had more pin side thickness than an LQ9. But hearing stories about cracked walls makes me wonder...

Dude, he's a human. I am a professional at my job. I complain. I complain alot. You can't name a human that wouldn't regardless of title. A professional will handle it correctly, by doing the best he or she can regardless of your feelings towards the moment or the person receiving it.

I totally agree. He took the job, but didn't realize what he was in for. You got off lucky probably. He was kinda hinting at a thanks, and a pat on the back for doing the job at his word on price, and taking the time to do it right.

I can't believe they take that block out to 4.00... I wonder how long it lasts. Definitely not a power adder combo!

Your right,I was being a hard *** with the last statement.I have been raked over the coals by engines builders a few times in the past so forgive me.You really gotta be smart and jus not have faith here.Check the work with some proper measuring devices since it really is'nt too hard or exspensive.Just to give yourself some peice of mind.I actually enjoy doin stuff like this since it will give you a better understanding of engines and how they are affected by the build tolerences.

Some days it sucks to be a machine shop. When my buddy had his L92's milled .060" the mill only took of .003 per swipe. It was a long day at the mill for a flat rate fee for somebody that day... I bet their pricing has changed since!

The point as I see it is check the work regardless of who does it.....that should be a part of every assembly process.
