Default moly rings...

well my assembly is at the shop waiting to get balanced i just have to bring them my rings. this is only going to be a ~440hp (NA) lq4 based motor so i went by oreillys to get rings and they had to order it. situation is get the moly rings tommorow or wait a week or so and get cast rings? im just worried about having seating issues, how long would it take them to seat? should i just go ahead and wait for the cast rings to come in?

thanks

Why wouldn't you prefer moly rings? By cast, do you mean chrome or simply ductile iron rings?

I was just worried about having issues seating the rings. So it's not as bad as everyone makes it seem?

Unless you have specific reasons not to, I would use moly rings. Your machine shop shouldn't be doing anything unusual with the hone on the cylinder walls so just do a conventional break-in. I would talk to your machine shop. They may have a good reason not to use a particular ring.

not trying to jump off topic, but what machine shop are you using? How are they on the wallet?

H&h machine they did some work on my buddys block and said they did good work and were good priced so I checked them out. 100 bucks to hot tank, clean gasket surfaces, install cam bearings and hone (60 without a hone) that's with me supplying bearings. And 175 to balance my assembly as long as they don't need to add mallory. I'm just using another stock crank with stock pistons so they said It shouldn't need any, but yea cheapest price I found and my buddies motor turned out great.

If it's a 1.5x1.5mm ring pack Sealed power E921K iron/molley for a mild build. I get less than 2% leak down with these rings. I've found the ball hone to be one of the best methods for a re ring when not removing material.
