Max stroke in 01 6.0
#1
I have a 6.0l Vortec from 2001 that I have torn apart and am working on rebuilding. I want to put a stroker crank in it along with new rods, pistons, valves, heads, and cam. Does anybody know the biggest stroke I can get away with before having to clearance anything? Does anybody have any suggestions on brands and specific stroker kits? Also curious if I should bore it out bigger and if so what is the recommended?

If you tell us your goal, we can better help you.
There are ups and downs to longer strokes and bigger bores. There is tons of information available online if you're just trying to get a sense of what they are.

You can fit a 4" stroke for sure, i forget if 4.125" needs extra machine work.
4" is not ideal for a motor you want a lot of miles out of.
I suggest doing some research on 4" stroke and how far out of the cylinder it brings the piston skirt.
I'm going to suggest a maggie or whipple supercharger before someone else does. Best of both worlds for a heavy truck that will tow.

I have a 4" stroke in a stock 6l block.
does it make power and torque, yes it does.
do I suggest you do it for something that gets alot of miles, no I don't.
I put new pistons in it every second season due to the skirt wear. I fully knew this when I built the motor, my truck is just a toy that I take out when it's nice out, I needed the cubes to move such a large truck, I run nitrous so I need all the NA power I can get.
personally I would suggest you get a PD blower instead of a 4" stroke.

I agree. If you want to get alot of miles out of it, I would just hone the cylinders or go ahead and bore it to 4.030" (370ci) with a decent set of pistons and gen 4 rods with stock crank. And then throw a turbo on it. Tow baby tow!

It's all opinion. The gen 4 blocks are fine with a 4" stroke with the Pistons designed for a stroker. The summit kit or K1 is a good choice, call the guys at summit and they can explain how the problem with skirt wear has been addressed. Strokers make power...
