Default LS6 springs: Blue vs. Yellow

I have an 02-up LS6 cam on the way that specs at 0.550" lift at the valve with 1.7 rockers. Currently I have LS6 springs in my engine, but they're the blue ones that come with the hot cam kit or that cam on 01 LS6's. I'm wondering if I can get away with the blue LS6 springs with an 02 LS6 cam. Does anyone know the difference between the two different LS6 springs?

Remember I have FI and I'm not affraid to spin the mighty 4.8 to 6500.

From what I've read, the yellow ones are supposed to be rated for higher lift than the blue ones. SDPC had the yellow ones as a set for around $60 shipped, that's where I got mine Not sure if the blue ones are OK for the 02 LS6 cam though...sorry

So no one has any hard concrete advise or experience as to whether or not I should do this? I'm going to check the coil bind to be sure, but I doubt it will at 0.550" lift.

I had some blue springs seat and coil bind tested when installing on a set of #243 LS1 heads. It would have been VERY close to coil bind with the 02+ LS6 cam lift of 0.550", close enough that the machine shop recommended shaving the seat pocket to be sure. I later realized I sent the 02+ cam specs, not the 01 Z06 cam that I had.
BTW the 01 Z06 cam was rated at 0.525" lift.

That's the kind of info I need. The fact that the blue's aren't even rated at .550" makes me think they're inadequate. I'm sure as hell not shaving spring pockets either! Looks like I'm going to buy a set.

Does anyone know what shims I should use? What's the installed height?

Shim wise the LSx heads use a combo shim/valve seal. You can increase the pressure with discs under the cap but if too high ( could cause lifter bounce or excessive valvetrain wear ) you need to shave the pocket.
Sorry but I don't have the height specs. Maybe Richard/Big Tex?!?
