Default ls2 truck build recommendations

hey all, I am looking for some insight on my buddy's ls2 build for his 2500hd.

Heres the details: His stock lq4 ate a piston, bad. so he found an ls2 with p&p 243 heads with ls6 springs i believe. It is completely rebuilt with zero miles. He is going to put his lq4 intake and accessories on it. The engine has an ls7 cam in it. I've been trying to convince him its a bad cam choice for his combo.

Details on his truck: 2001 2500hd extended cab with a lift and 35" tires. It has 4.10 gears and the 4l80e trans, stock converter.

I've been looking into cams for his engine, and I am a little stumped. I've read not to go over 225/225 duration for a DD. He wants a good DD cam, but obviously needs down low torque with such a big heavy truck. I've looked at the GMPP Hot Cam, and a few others, but cant think of them off the top of my head though. Does anybody have any good recommendations?

Thank you!

I think something in the 217/223 range should do pretty good in that application. I'm planning on running that cam in my 6.0 build. lsr lobes and ther lift would take good advantage of the ported heads.

I'll look into the lsr series. i came across this site:

LS TRUCK CAMSHAFT

looks to have some decent cams, specifically "the trucker" "street/strip torker" and "street torker" catch my attention

the comp 212-218 will be the best off shelf DD cam .

I will recomend he goes custom , and be in the 218-222 range , arround 600 lift , tight LSA like 111-112 with +5 advance will get you some rubber burining tq

I had a 219-222 .607 .602 111+4 on a 6 speed 5.3 was great 2500rpm +cam

when I swaped a 6.0 with 823 heads , and the cam was custom for 5.3/243 setup

no tuning yet the truck burned rubber from a dig with out breaks

that was a monster under 5000rpms but lacked the top end that these L92 heads support

we recently did a 218/226 .598.605 114+6 , this is a vvt cam for a 2008 2500hd single cab with 6 speed and 4.10s with 35" tires

the tq is ridiculous on low RPMs , it a great DD too and the Idle is very nice

the HD with bolt ons and stock belt fan dynoed arround 350hp 350tq to the wheels with 87 gas

Sandman, what cam would you recommend for an '07 3500 CC with the LY6. Planning to go 88m turbo in the near future but only in the name of maximum low end torque.

thanks for the recommendation! 350rwhp is damn good in these big trucks, especially on 87
