LS2 Swap? Has anyone done this?
#1
A lot of people on here either do an LS1 swap or a 6.0 swap...has anyone thought about puttin the LS2 almuminum block in their nbs truck? I mean 400hp/400tq would be great to have stock then put a better set of heads with upgrade springs, pushrods, lifters, and rocker arms. add a bigger cam. get a 3000 or higher stall. add some header and get it all performance tuned wouldnt you be gettin all and then some of that 400/400 to the rear wheels? i mean it would be a great starting block for someone that is looking to get into the 11s or 12s all motor. But has anyone done this yet? only thing is you might want to swap the intake manifold to a truck manifold so you dont lose low end power...this is what I was thinking about the other day and i thought it would be a good idea to do. Anyone done it yet or thinkin about doin it?

They don't work well with the LS1 PCM's I've seen now where you can buy wiring pigtails to get the LS1 knock sensors to work but think you also have to change out the crank reluctors (spelling?)

The cost of the block is what keeps alot fo people away. You can pick up a good running 6L for 1400 on the high side and an LS2 will run you 2800+. If DART doesnt come out with their aftermarket block by this summer then I will be looking into picking up an LS2 block for weight savings and just to be different.

well the main reason i was asking is because stock hp/tq numbers to the crank are much better than an lq4 or lq9 plus its aluminum like an lq9 so yeah there will be a weight difference and a big horsepower difference...stick a cam and stall on an ls2/4l80 combo and youve got 400/400 to the wheels easily...in a 4200 pound truck like mine that would be easy 12s...add a 100 shot in there and your lookin at 11s possibly even tens depending on a few other items

the wednesday after i got it i took to sac cause the street legal drags are every wednesday...took 3 passes...15.26 was my last run after hooking perfect...the other two were like 15.42 and 15.37...i didnt think it was that bad for a 99 with 75000 miles on it...just wanted a basic time to work off of and improve upon...which next year i am looking to do an LS2 swap so hopefully i will skip a few seconds all together and go straight for 12's or lower

The LQ9 is not aluminum it is an iron block with aluminum heads. Yes you can start out with higher hp numbers but you are getting the hp from a bit more aggressive cam, higer CR, little better flowing heads, 90mm intake. You are paying for stuff that IMO you would be replacing anyway. You will be putting a bigger cam in there, getting the heads worked, you may or may not get the intake but I would rather put the money saved towards a FAST setup anyway and get some real hp. You can get the heads of a 6L milled cleaned up put a big cam in it, and be short 20hp and weigh a 100 ls more but be ahead of the game by a grand. Its all in how much you want ot spend and bang for the buck. For me an LS2 block is very feasable since I already ahve dart heads, cam and forged rotating assembly just some block work and go on down the road.
