Default LQ9 Build Advice

Ok so after going back and forth on what I'm going to do engine wise I think I've finally figured out what direction I'm going to go. My truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 with the 6.0 after a little bit of research I realized this particular engine wasn't the best choice for a build. So anyways after talking myself out of a turbo build(atleast for now). Well anyways now to the details...

So I decided I was going kinda mild since this is my first ls engine build. My current engine is tired so I started looking for a replacement engine and came across a low mileage LQ9 locally and decided I wanted to go that route. I haven't purchased the engine yet but I decided on a mild 400 rwhp goal for the LQ9. I want to keep it naturally aspirated and daily driver friendly because I like driving my truck and want it to keep its street manners. I have a decent idea on what I need to get there just looking for a little insight from y'all.

Ok, so current list

-LQ9 Engine
-Cam (specd out by tuner)
-Good Set of Heads
-Springs
-Valves
-Pushrods
-Lifters
-Comp Trunion Kit
-Oil Pump
-Timing Chain
-Long Tube Headers with Offroad Y Pipe
-Full Exhaust
-FAST Intake
-Injectors
-Fuel Pump
-Tuning
-Stall Converter

Let me know if y'all have any suggestions I already have a built 4L80E so I'm not worried about the transmission. Any advice is always appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on what heads come standard on a LQ9, they shouldn't need to be swapped at all. They already flow so well.

I'd skip the fast intake, not worth the money for what you are going to get out of it.

Agreed*

Use an 07+ intake. The fast is far too expensive and the 07+ intake will flow well enough

Yes I was planning on using the stock LQ9 heads I was just going to give them a port and polish and all new insides. Do you think this goal of 400 rwhp is achievable?

No doubt. Mine made just over 400 with a cam and bolt ons. Probably a bigger cam than you'd like tho.

With headwork on the 317s, 90mm stock intake, and a mild cam 400 to the wheels shouldn't be a problem. I'd pick out my converter then match the cam to it.

Agree with everything except the converter then cam selection, figure out your cam and then your stall off of that..if it ends up being a higher atall than you want then yiu can adjust everything..... As far as injectors you will probably be ok with the 07+ flex fuel injectors that would come with the intake... I have a complete intake off of an 11 5.3 flex fuel if you decide to go that route...

How do 317s flow compared to 243s?

They flow about the same. 243s flow just a little bit better. People swap to 243s for the compression bump.

Oh okay thanks. So if they flow about the same but the 243 bumps compression would the 317s be better on a forced induction application?
