Default LQ4 Lifters

Alright, stock lifters (188,xxx miles) are driving me crazy. Just the same old ticking noises as always. I see a lot of people are putting the LS7 lifters in, and I plan on doing a cam swap at the same time. Not sure on a grind yet, haven't dove in too deep in all the numbers yet. Will LS7 lifters hold fine? And eventually hold up to a Procharger? Or am I better off running with COMP or Crane and such?

I personally think its a gamble. When you do all that work you'r not going to want to tear back into it for awhile. Especially not to replace lifters again or fix carnage that they caused when they let go. Some people run them and never have a problem, others have ran them and they failed. There was some talk awhile back about the problem coming from the single pack of ls7 lifters, most guys say to get the packs of 8. I personally just ordered the Morel 5315 lifters. They are advertised as a direct replacement ls lifter. They are great quality and many people rave about Morel stuff. I could be wrong but i thing Morel actually makes the Lunati lifters. I picked up mine for less than $200. Its your call but i would deff do your research. Since you plan on going FI in the future you might wanna buy something that is built for for the long haul and up to the task.

I plan on throwing the cam and supporting mods in this summer, gonna start collecting parts soon, Procharger and bottom-end parts to follow the next summer. I've seen a lot of "boost" grinds for cams, so would I be better off looking into something of that sort and buying springs and rockers and whatever else to support the F1? Seems like that would be better off in the long run, not sure what all needs to be done, or if boost really even effects valve train.. Sorry for all the questions!

IMHO i would wait to do the cam and valvetrain stuff when you do the bottom end and FI. Not unless you just want to go ahead and do the valvetrain to get rid of your lifter noise. You can do the cam and all that but if you put a boost cam in your engine you wont get the full effects of it until you get it boosted and tuned. A boost cam is meant for boost. Dont get me wrong it will still be an improvement over stock but it will like the boost a lot more. As far as springs i would just get quality parts that are rated for more than what your cam/rockers will make. If your cam is .600" lift then dont get springs that are rated for .600" lift.. Get something like .650". The key with boost is making sure the bottom end is built to handle it.

As Far as the LS7 lifters go.

Some people were buying Bulk lifters that were being advertised as LS7 lifters. They were either loosely packaged or came in no label boxes.

The others I have seen that have had problems did not Prime the lifters Prior to installation. They also did not Prime the engine with an oil primer Prior to attempting to start the engine.

Im not saying they can't fail, but Getting Genuine parts and properly installing them will greatly reduce that chance.

Ls7 lifters are great. Buy them in the packs of 8.

Unless you buy the $500+ morels with .750" wheels youre getting nothing better than stock. JMO.

They'll hold for a cam and eventual boost? Just don't wanna tear it all down for the top end work and have to take it back apart to swap lifters.
